Get your Home Spruced up for Spring with these Simple Cleaning Tips

As we transition from the chilly days of winter to the bright warmth of spring, change is everywhere. Vibrant colors begin to emerge and sweet fragrances fill the air. This makes it the perfect time to clean out the old and welcome the new. As we switch gears to sunnier days, it’s the perfect opportunity to spend a little time sprucing up our homes.

Although you might want to skip out on general organizing, there are a few property maintenance tasks you don’t want to ignore. Here are some of the key points you’ll definitely want to address during this year’s spring cleaning.

Service Your AC Unit

It’s a good idea to call for a professional to come in and inspect your outdoor AC unit. By making sure everything is running smoothly and repairing anything that isn’t, you can avoid the disaster of a midsummer breakdown.

Inspect Window Screens

As the weather gets more temperate, everyone loves to have the windows open. Screens are perfect for this time of year, conveniently letting the cool breeze in while keeping unwanted insects and debris out.

Go around and inspect your window screens to find any holes or tears. You can patch these up using simple wire. Dirt and grime can easily get stuck in the screen holes, drastically reducing their efficiency. Place them on a flat surface and scrub them clean with sudsy water before rinsing them.

Touch Up Outdoor Paint

Nothing makes a home look better than a fresh coat of paint. The great thing about this is that it isn’t difficult or expensive to achieve. Spend an afternoon with a brush and some paint to touch up any chips or scrapes.

Not only does it make your home look amazing, but having a finely-sealed coat of paint helps to protect from the elements and provides a light layer of insulation.

Replace Smoke Detector Batteries

It’s always better to be safe than sorry. Taking a few minutes out of the day to check and replace smoke detector batteries can mean saving you, your loved ones, and your home from a potentially dangerous situation.

Check Concrete and Asphalt

Do a few rounds outside to check up on the concrete and asphalt elements of your home. If you see cracks, splits, or dips, it’s time to repair them. Taking an early initiative to fix these issues can save you from trouble down the line.

Replace Your HVAC Filter

Cleaning out your internal AC unit is important for the your health, your wallet, and the planet. The dust and debris that clogs dirty filters gets recirculated throughout the house. Because of this, the filter isn’t able to properly sanitize the air.

Since the AC has to work harder to reach the set temperature, you end up wasting more energy and having to pay a steeper electric bill.
